UK Production Booms in Incredible Post Covid Recovery

Figures released today from the BFI’s most recent ‘UK Screen Sector Report‘ have shown that the UK has seen an incredible year for TV production resulting in a doubling of investment in Television. For the year from October 2020 – September 2021 some £4.1bn was spent on filming in TV across the UK. This is up massively from a £2.3bn spend in the same period in 2018-19. TV productions filmed include everything from Bridgerton and Top Boy on Netflix, to hoe grown series like The Capture and Doctor Who. This has lead to large productions like Amazon’s second series for the huge Lord of The Rings show moving over to London to film the entirety of their second series here. Spend on Film Production is also almost near to its pre pandemic levels with £1.8bn spent in the same period above.

In order to accommodate this sudden impact of filming new studios have just been announced in the capital: firstly Troubadour are to open their second studio in Brent Cross in 2022, converting an old Toy ‘R’ Us shop into a 150,000 sq ft studio, secondly RD Studios is to open a new 50,000 sq st studio in the heart of Park Royal, offering great connections to Heathrow Airport.

The Enfield Film Office has seen a large surge in filming in the borough over the past year so check out our most recent article here to see whats been happening in the borough!
