London Rolls Out the Welcome Mat for Disney and Netflix!

Two of the biggest production companies in the world have officially made London their home.

Both the Walt Disney Co. and Netflix have struck a long-term deal with Pinewood Group to use their London studios as their main sites for production. With Netflix taking up Shepperton Studios this year, and Walt Disney moving into Pinewood Studios in 2020, these deals have proven a real vote of confidence in the UK film and TV industry.

Paul Golding, chairman of the Pinewood Group Ltd., said in a statement. “The fact they want to shoot here is a testimony not only to the quality of the teams and infrastructure at Pinewood but also to the British film industry as a whole.”

Since 2010, almost a third of all movies with budgets of more than $100 million have filmed at Pinewood Group’s studios around the world, and with Production spend on film and TV in the UK reaching £3.1bn in 2018, we can’t wait for whats to come! At the Enfield Film Office, managed by The Film Office we manage filming to maximise benefits for the council, its residents and businesses to provide community benefits that extend borough wide – not just in the areas that filming takes place.

Some of our favourite highlights of Netflix and Disney productions in our client Boroughs include: the returning new series of Top Boy, Black Mirror,  The Crown and the practically perfect Mary Poppins! An investment like this has far reaching consequences as more often than not productions will extend their outreach of filming to the boroughs of London and with London home to more than 100,000 people working in the sector, we can’t wait to see what’s in the store for our boroughs over the coming years!
