Forty Hall: Filming Wonderland

Nestled in the north of the borough of Enfield, surrounded by lovely countryside lies one of London’s hidden gems and a firm favourite location of the Enfield Film Office, managed by the Film Office and that location is none other than Forty Hall Estate and Park.

Forty Hall is an exceptional location, offering a rich blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty. The estate comprises of a beautiful Grade I Listed Jacobean Manor House as well as 79 acres of idyllic estate grounds, making it one of England’s finest and most intact historic settings. The manor itself features beautifully preserved 17th and 18th Century architecture, including a Great Hall, bed chambers, kitchen, and parlour—each providing authentic period interiors perfect for period pieces right the way through to modern day settings.The estate also boasts a hall and gallery, inner atrium, grand staircase, and a charming courtyard, ideal for varied cinematic backdrops. Outside, the grounds include an ornamental lake, walled garden, medieval fishing ponds, winding streams and brooks, and expansive pleasure grounds, lawns, meadows, and woodland, all enriched by Georgian and Victorian flora and fauna. With historical sites and monuments throughout, Forty Hall offers filmmakers a rare and versatile location steeped in character and timeless beauty.

Forty Hall also boasts a unit base on-site within its large car park. This site is perfect for medium to large productions filming either at Forty Hall itself or in the local area. Recently it has serviced large shoots in the borough for some great productions such as ITV’s Trigger Point season 2 and 3, BBC’s Whitstable Pearl and various TV commercials.

Over the years we have had some fantastic productions visit Forty Hall to utilise all that it has to offer. Back in 2020, The Antiques Road Show took to Forty Hall to film 24 contributors each day over three days with antiques experts discussing the story of the item and giving a valuation. 100 crew strong, they set up on the lawn with of Forty Hall in all its glory behind which lent itself spectacularly to the historic tv show given the Estate’s own history and grandeur. This was the first large shoot to take place at Forty Hall and we were so pleased to have such an esteemed classic British TV Show visit!

More recently, Forty Hall has accommodated shoots from large TV commercials such as PG Tips and the National Lottery, to a variety of documentaries. BBC’s Myleene Klass: Miscarriage & Me, Channel 5’s Catfish UK, BBC’s Digging For Britain, and most recently in 2025 an unreleased documentary about Prince William & Princess Catherine of Wales – watch this space! Also recently, ITV’s This Morning visited Forty Hall with Strictly’s Oti Mabuse as a part of their mini-series, ‘Get Into the Groove with Oti’ in which couples were coached by Oti to win the wedding gift of a life-time. In this specific episode the lucky couple Andy & Joan showcased their final performance in the long gallery & inner courtyard. This created much excitement amongst staff at Forty Hall and the content made its way onto their social media pages.
